Day 21 Check-In: Quiet Discipline, Deep Work, and Interview Momentum
Theme
Today felt like one of those days where progress isn’t loud — it’s steady.
The kind of day where you don’t chase motivation…
you just show up, do the work, and build the next version of yourself one hour at a time.
Today’s Wins ✅
I started the day strong with 45 minutes of yoga.
It wasn’t just a workout — it was a reset.
Yoga has become more than fitness for me lately. It’s my way of reminding myself that even when life feels uncertain, I can still create stability inside my own routine. I can still choose discipline. I can still choose strength.
After that, I came to the coffee shop — my familiar spot — and ordered my same Quartermoon coffee. There’s something comforting about that consistency. Same place, same drink… but a mindset that keeps evolving.
Before diving into studying, I applied to one of the companies I got a referral for. That felt like a meaningful step — because I’m not just applying randomly anymore. I’m trying to be intentional, strategic, and consistent.
I also reached out to another friend for a referral for an opening at their company. I’ve learned that job searching isn’t just about what you know — it’s also about relationships, communication, and being willing to ask for help without hesitation.
And overall, I got in 5 focused hours today — the kind where I truly made progress.
What I Focused On 🧠
Today’s main goal was preparing for the two interviews lined up tomorrow afternoon.
And I can feel the difference in how I’m preparing now.
It’s not scattered studying.
It’s not panic-learning.
It’s structured, purposeful, and aligned to what I actually need to perform well.
Here’s what I worked on:
Terraform: From Basics to Advanced
I started with Terraform fundamentals, and then pushed myself into more advanced topics.
This was one of those moments where I reminded myself:
I don’t just want to “know enough to answer an interview question.”
I want to understand it clearly enough that I could explain it, implement it, and defend design choices with confidence.
Cloud Ops: Strategy, Governance, and Cadence
Next, I studied cloud operations — including:
- strategy
- governance models
- operating cadence
This part is important because a lot of leadership roles aren’t just about building things — they’re about running things.
Keeping systems healthy.
Driving reliability.
Creating the rhythm and accountability that keeps teams moving.
MDM Architecture Deep Dive
Then I went back into studying MDM architecture, tying together how devices are managed, monitored, and controlled at scale.
This topic is dense, but it’s also exciting because it’s exactly the kind of real-world system design that requires both technical depth and product thinking.
Observability + Platform Tools
I also spent time learning about:
- Dynatrace
- Splunk
- and why teams use these tools (not just what they are)
This felt like one of those “level up your vocabulary” moments — where I’m not just collecting terms, I’m learning how to talk about them like someone who’s actually operated systems.
APIM + Apigee
I wrapped up by reading more about APIM and Apigee, and why companies migrate to API management platforms.
This also connects back to real engineering leadership: security, governance, standardization, and scalability — the stuff that matters in large orgs.
What’s Next 🔥
Tomorrow afternoon is interview time.
And instead of feeling anxious, I feel something better:
Ready.
Not because I know everything.
But because I’ve built momentum.
My goal tomorrow is simple:
- stay calm
- communicate clearly
- show executive presence
- and bring confidence from preparation, not pressure
Closing
Today was one of those days that reminds me:
Small routines create big outcomes.
Yoga. Coffee. Focus. Learning. Applications. Referrals.
Not flashy… but powerful.
Day 21 was earned.
Layoff2LevelUp — still climbing. ☕💻🧘🏽♀️✅
