Day 23 Check-In: Structure, Clarity, and Getting Better at System Design
Theme
Today was about doing something I’ve been craving for a while:
turning confusion into structure.
System design is one of those areas where you can know the concepts…
but still feel stuck when you’re put on the spot.
Today, I decided to stop guessing what I’m missing — and start building a repeatable way to improve.
Today’s Wins ✅
I got to the coffee shop by 10:30 AM today — earlier than usual — and that alone felt like a win.
That extra head start gave me almost one full extra hour to study, and I could feel the difference in my focus.
My usual ritual continues:
Same coffee shop.
Same Quartermoon.
Same mindset:
daily drill.
Before diving into studying, I also handled some career admin:
- sent a couple of follow-up emails for ongoing interviews
- reached out to contacts to set up new interviews
- made sure my resume was ready to send quickly if anyone asked
It may seem small, but staying ready is part of staying consistent.
What I Focused On 🧠
Today’s core focus was system design — but not in the usual “watch and hope it clicks” way.
I focused on something more important:
Finding my gaps
I asked myself honestly:
Where am I lacking? What is missing? Why does it feel incomplete sometimes?
Instead of getting frustrated, I approached it like an engineering problem:
➡️ Identify the weak points
➡️ Create a plan
➡️ Practice with intention
Building a System Design Template
The biggest win today was creating a template — a structure I can follow when answering system design questions.
This is huge for me because structure reduces stress.
It gives me a path.
Even when I don’t know everything, I’ll still know how to move through the problem step by step in a confident way.
Testing the Template
I used the template to answer one system design question and got it evaluated.
The ratings were not impressive in 2 out of the 5 sections.
And honestly, that wasn’t bad news.
It was clarity.
Because the good news is:
✅ I already suspected those were my weaker areas
✅ now I have confirmation
✅ and now I can improve with focus instead of guessing
That shift alone makes me feel more in control.
What Changed Today
After working through the same question again with this structure, I now have a much better understanding of it.
What felt fuzzy before feels clearer now.
And this is exactly the kind of progress I’m aiming for:
Not perfection overnight —
but better understanding, better flow, and stronger confidence with each practice session.
What’s Next 🔥
I’m going to use this template every day to practice new system design prompts.
Because I can already feel the improvement:
each day I practice, I get better.
Closing
Today was 6 hours of studying, and it felt productive — not chaotic.
The biggest win wasn’t just the time spent.
It was building a repeatable system to improve.
Day 23: productive, focused, and forward.
